NSPCC was founded in 1884 as the London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children by Benjamin Waugh. After five years of campaigning by the london SPCC, parliment passed the first ever UK law to protect children from abuse and neglect in 1889.
The NSPCC has developed an updated strategy for its work to end cruelty to children. The strategy, building on the success of the FULL STOP Campaign launched in 1999, is one designed for growth and will take the charity forward into 2016.
With your support, their campaigns to people in power can help bring about real improvements in children's lives. Please add your voice to their network of campaign supporters - together we can make a difference.
The NSPCC believes that hitting children is wrong whatever the circumstances. It is emotionally and physically harmful and sets a bad example to children. What's more, it isn't even a very effective way of encouraging better behaviour. The NSPCC has a range of advice on managing children's behaviour without smacking.
The NSPCC persuade their audience by using children in their adverts as young as 1 years old showing how they are neglected and abused, so it makes the public feel bad so they start supporting the campaign by giving money to help the sufferers.
" A child dies from cruelty every week in England and Wales".
